Rodney graduated high school as the state of Maryland’s all-time leading score with over 3000 points. He gained a scholarship to North Carolina State University where he leads in one significant statistical category – total points. The Baltimore native finished his career as the program's all-time leading score with 2,551 points breaking David Thompson’s record. He was drafted into the NBA by the Atlanta Hawks and played there for the 1991–92 season. After the NBA Monroe played 14 years in Europe, Australia, and the Philippines. Currently, Monroe is the Director of basketball operations and head coach of men’s basketball at SouthLake Christian Academy in Huntersville, North Carolina.
